Second Devlog!!!


Hello All,

It's been a while since I published a new update both because of school and dealing with the whole COVID crisis. But I pulled myself together and releasing a new big batch of updates.

Here are the changes in this version:

  • First and foremost, I finally added some 2D lightning to the game. Now the game is 32% spookier (OOooOOoOooOOO). Every candle lights your way, as well as Newton's own gravity wells emit light, as well as the enemies' fireballs. I think it really added some texture to the game. But as always, any criticism is appreciated.
  • Our game has a boss now! It still has a couple of animations missing that is going to be patched in but the main mechanics are there. You best put to use what you learned throughout the game in order to beat him. Good luck!
  • I also finally added a save feature. This way you can take a break and continue from where you left off some other time.
  • There is also a level select menu where you can replay the levels you have beaten. You know... in case you can't get enough.
  • Also, really exciting news: I have created a new crushing boulder mechanic and created 3 new mine levels with more to come! Now it's still a WIP but please write any comments you have about them here. Don't be shy :)
  • A whole bunch of new assets for the mine levels
  • 2 new original songs, one for the tutorials and one for the mine levels, courtesy of Emin Gök. Check him out on Spotify!
  • The screen gently fades to black and back for level transitions.
  • The music finally carries over from one scene to the other without resetting. The old version must have been really annoying, sorry about that!
  • New animations for Newton when he's charging up his gravity well shots

Some planned changes for the upcoming update:

  • Some variant sprites for the crushing boulders (No one wants to see the same thing everywhere)
  • Fixing the mine level tiles for boulders
  • A custom cursor!!!!!
  • Boss animations for his flame attack and when he's dying
  • Some crush mechanics for the props because I think people find it annoying that when they're cornered by a bunch of small props and can't shoot anywhere. I think maybe for some small props, it's best for them to be crushed into dust after hitting something too fast.
  • Fixing the bug where sometimes some props fly out through the walls if they are going too fast.
  • Some more music for the boss fight.
  • A final, action-packed level where you have to escape from a collapsing mine.
  • Some story elements (believe it or not, I actually was thinking about a story for all this weirdness)
  • Aaaaand most importantly: A STEAM PAGE!!!!!! Yes, you read it right! I think I am at the point where I don't have much to do in terms of mechanics and the work left is mostly polishing the game at this point. So maybe in the coming months, I can release it for free on Steam. Keep a lookout and please wishlist and download it when the page comes out. Your support means a lot! :)
